Justice Department warns California officials against arresting federal agents

U.S. Deputy Lawyer Normal Todd Blanche despatched a proper letter to prime officers in California on Thursday, warning them towards makes an attempt to arrest or impede federal legislation enforcement officers imposing immigration legal guidelines.
The letter, addressed to Governor Gavin Newsom; State Lawyer Normal Rob Bonta; Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.; and San Francisco District Lawyer Brooke Jenkins emphasised that federal brokers and officers carry out lawful duties and that any interference by state or native officers is each “unlawful and futile.”
The letter was despatched after Pelosi, the previous Home speaker, and Rep. Kevin Mullin, D-Calif., issued a press release Wednesday threatening to arrest federal brokers in the event that they violate California legislation.

The letter cites a number of federal statutes that criminalize assaulting, obstructing, or conspiring towards federal officers, and notes that the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Structure gives that state officers can’t prosecute federal brokers for actions taken in the middle of their duties.
Blanche directed California leaders to “protect all written and digital communications and paperwork regarding makes an attempt or efforts to impede or impede federal legislation enforcement officers,” warning upfront that the Justice Division will examine and prosecute any official who violates federal statutes.
