Honda issues recall affecting over 400,000 Civics over risk of wheels coming off

Greater than 400,000 Honda Civics have been recalled after the automaker found {that a} manufacturing downside may trigger the wheels to separate from the car whereas driving.

Honda introduced the voluntary recall on Friday, affecting roughly 406,000 autos bought within the U.S. with mannequin years from 2016-2021.

The issue, which stems from a provider error, “may trigger the lug nuts to loosen and loosen,” the corporate stated.

“Because of a provider manufacturing error, the metal cam seats of aluminum accent wheels could not have been put in (pressed) into the nut seating floor,” Honda stated in a press launch.

“Throughout regular car use, the seating floor of the lug nuts can deform, inflicting the lug nuts to grow to be unfastened and unfastened,” the report continued.

Honda stated this “may trigger the wheel to grow to be unfastened from the car, rising the chance of a crash or damage.”

The automaker urged homeowners of affected autos to take their vehicles to a licensed supplier for a free inspection. If crucial, the supplier will exchange the wheels freed from cost.
