Man, 71, rescued after fall through ice on Waterford’s Pleasant Lake

A 71-year-old Oakland County man was handled for hypothermia and accidents Dec. 31 after falling by means of the ice whereas snowmobiling on Nice Lake in Waterford Township.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Workplace Search and Rescue Crew responded to a name from the person’s spouse Wednesday at 5:44 p.m. reporting that her husband was driving a snowmobile on Nice Lake and had damaged by means of the ice. Two close by neighbors took to the ice in an try to find the person, however turned misplaced and disoriented by the whiteout situations. Each neighbors ultimately made their method to the coast.

The sheriff’s search and rescue workforce, together with the Waterford Regional Hearth Division, started a seek for the person, positioned him and introduced him safely to shore. The person was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Waterford and handled for hypothermia and accidents.

“This incident is a stark reminder that ice situations can change shortly and stay unpredictable, even in persistently chilly climate,” sheriff’s officers mentioned in a press release. “We encourage excessive warning round ‘frozen’ lakes and ponds and keep away from touring on ice except situations are clearly identified to be secure.”
