A man from Michigan accused of embezzlement of more than $ 400,000 from a Trust family goes to prison, said civil servants.
David White was sentenced to four to 20 years in prison last week, announced the office of the attorney general by Michigan Dana Nessel.
In November a jury of Oakland County found the 68-year-old guilty to one census of performing a criminal company; Two counts of blackout by an agent/trustee of $ 50,000 or more but less than $ 100,000; One count of embezzlement by an agent/trustee of $ 1,000 or more but less than $ 20,000; and six counts of failure of submitting taxes.
Authorities say that White, from Union City or Battle Creek, became the co-trustee of the John Stirling White Trust in 2014 when his father, John Stirling White, died. Although John White had several adult children, the assets that are kept in confidence were never divided to the beneficiaries because of the current lawsuits, according to the Nessel office. David White checked his income, costs and access to financial data.
In 2019 he was removed by the Probate Court as a co-truste from a study by Nessel showed that between 2014 and 2019 he darkened at least $ 400,000 from the trust.
“I am grateful to the prosecutors in my office for their diligent work and the family member who brought this case to our attention during our listening tour of the older abuse, which ultimately leads to charges,” Nessel said in the release. “The estates of deceased loved ones deserve to be managed with respect, and my office will continue to keep those who abuse this trust responsible.”
A restitution hearing is held on May 9.
A lawyer who represents White could not be reached immediately on Monday for comment.
The conviction has followed various blackout cases in Metro Detroit in recent months.
Last month a West Bloomfield Township woman and a Livingston County -Man were accused of darkening money from vulnerable adults.
In December, the Nessel office accused a woman from South Lyon of hundreds of thousands of dollars from a man with cognitive disorders. Her case was bound to Oakland County Circuit Court for trial.
In September, a Southfield man was charged with alleged eclipse of more than $ 7,000 of eight vulnerable adults in a nursing home in Warren.
