NYPD rescues injured bald eagle stranded on Hudson River ice

Officers from the NYPD Harbor Unit rescued an injured bald eagle that was discovered floating on ice within the Hudson River on Tuesday, authorities stated.

The officers noticed the injured fowl at round 9:27 a.m. native time whereas on patrol and heard it screaming because it clung to a floating ice shelf within the icy river.

They rapidly maneuvered their craft via chunks of ice and introduced the boat alongside the stranded fowl.

Bodycam video launched by the division confirmed the eagle sitting on the sting of the ice as an officer prolonged a protracted catch pole to drag it to security.

“It is okay, buddy. I feel he is doing fantastic,” an officer says.

‘We have you. Convey me somewhat nearer,” one other officer says as he picks up the fowl with what seems to be a yellow tarp.

The eagle is then introduced aboard the police boat, wrapped in a blanket and transported to a transport basket.

“They acted rapidly and received the fowl to security,” the NYPD stated on X.

An NYPD spokesperson instructed Fox Information Digital on Wednesday that the eagle was transported to a fowl sanctuary for therapy of its accidents.

In line with the New York State Division of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), bald eagles flock to New York in the course of the winter months, with arrivals starting in December and peak concentrations in January and February earlier than most return to their nests in mid-March.
